Mini update

I'm moving my domain to another page so won't lead here anymore.  I'm opening an Etsy store that I'll probably use about as much as this blog, heh.  But it will go there now.

I'm not using my blog much, obviously.  I am debating keeping it.  Seems readership has one down and that's on me.  I don't promote it, don't really have much of a focus and don't update very often.  So all this is ok with me.

I may still pop in here and there to post stuff.  Random musings, and thoughts, photos of crafts, etc.

Thank you for those who have stuck with me all this time.  You rock.

Wednesday WIPs

I has a sad.  I only have one WIP.  The dang blanket.  But I'm still working on it!!  It's only about 3 rows bigger than last week so I did not take a photo.  I whipped up (WIPed up?) a hat real quick for charity.  And have a skein of yarn in my project bag for a few more hats.  That's sadly it for my WIPs at this time.

(Awkward silence)

So.... what's new with you?

On Faith

I try very hard to steer clear of religion and politics here.  But I had some amazing thoughts on the process at most Methodist churches this morning while at church and wrote up a little something.  Feel free to skip it.  I just wanted a platform to share my thoughts.

An interesting thing about most Methodist churches; pastors rarely stay in one church for a length of time.  They’re usually there a few years and get moved by the district to another church.  Sometimes they’re moved sooner or later by request of the pastor or congregation.  Or based on need.  It’s often a jarring event for everyone involved.  You get used to each other.  Settle into the routine of it all.  I’ve seen/heard of some congregations threaten to disband and leave the church if a pastor is made to move.  But it’s really just the way of it.

It does seem odd and sometimes pointless.  Especially if everyone is getting along well.  But like just about anything in life, too much of the same thing can lead to idleness.  Think of it like exercise.  If you spend all your time doing bicep curls and tricep dips, you may have some amazing looking arms, but weak legs.  You need to rotate your workouts, right?  Why not…. Rotate your faith?

This all occurred to me this morning in church.  We had a guest pastor who was retired from another Methodist church not too far from our own.  She is definitely has a different flair from our own pastor, but no better or worse.  Just different.  I thought back over the pastors we’ve had at my church since I joined back in 2008.

Pastor Wendy was there when I first found my way to Gates Fourth.  She was young and full of excitement.  After spending probably 10-15 years as an atheist I was feeling very lost in my faith journey at that time.  Pastor Wendy helped me re-awaken and renew my faith again.  She gleefully led me back into a life of faith.  When she left I was crushed.

Pastor Pam was next.  She was very different, but I started to realize she was teaching me so much about patience, and forgiveness.  Even if without trying.

Pastor Ball was next.  A much older man with a quiet intensity to him.  He helped me get back to basics with my faith and dive back into the Bible.

Now we have Pastor Grayson.  He has taken every single thing I have learned over the years and shown me exactly how it ties into every aspect of my life.  How my faith plays a role in EVERYTHING!  He re-awakened that spirit that Wendy gave me at the start.

I’ve heard many stories of pastors we had before I came, all with a different flair to their preaching.  Some folks speak of certain ones with excitement, and love and some with an eye roll and a sigh.  Each one brought something special and unique to our church.

So while it seems strange or even difficult to change pastors so much, each once brings us new lessons in faith.  And renews our spirit in a different way.

Friday Five!!

It's Friday and a fracking beautiful morning. I woke up to this view:

Not the best picture, but the world was so still and quiet.  Here's a better one from my neighborhood

Ok well enough of that.  It's Friday so it's time for a list!  This week's list on my usual source is not the greatest, but I think it will do.

Friday Five!!

1) What's the good news?
Uh, it's Friday.  :D  Also, I'm having my taxes done tomorrow.  Try to contain yourselves.

2) When did you last take 5 and how did you spend it?
This morning after my workout.  I spent it sipping coffee and looking out the window at the amazing view wile the world was still quiet and asleep.  Those are my favorite moments.

3) Who's a big hunk?
My love for Ewan McGregor will never die. Ever.  Those eyes.  That smile.  The accent.  And oh my sweet Lord in heaven can the man sing.  Um, I need to go be alone for a minute.

4) In what way as this week been a rocky road?
Work.  Work has been insane as we are trying to tuck in the last little bit of the massive merger.  It's boring and I won't bore you with work crap, but my goodness I'm ready for a weekend.

5) What's something you're keeping Skor on?
I swear to everything that's how it was worded on the site.  Skor.  I'm pretty sure that's a candy bar.  I've Googled "keeping Skor" and come up empty.  So to answer the question, I'm keeping Skor on the shelf at the grocery store.  I'm not big on candy bars in general.

Ok I think that's about it.

Got any hot plans for the weekend?

Wednesday WIPs

What's up Wednesday!  Another sunny (albeit cold) day in Ohio.  And I gots me some WIPs to share!  Actually one.  And it's that dreaded blanket.  Yes, the blanket.  Oh the blanket.  But hey, it's at least going somewhere:

And we're getting low on yarn and I promised myself when these two giant skeins are gone I'm done.

BUT, I finished that sparkly lime green cowl I was making.  LOOKIT!!

I love it!  Here's a close look at the stitches.  (not a good representation of color)

It's a Tunisian stitch that I do not know the name of.  It's #36 from the book 101 Tunisian Stitches.  Good book, but I'm frustrated they did not give the names of the stitches.  Just numbers.  Meh, still a good source for different stitches to try.

Also, I've started working on my God-awful handwriting.  Some folks in the internet world set up a cool challenge last month that is continuing this month, using the hashtag #rockyourhandwriting.  Here are the prompts for this month if you're curious.

I'm doing this month and last month's prompts.  I write so many letters anymore and feel terrible for my penpals having to decipher my scribble.

I guess that's about it for me.  Hope everyone else is well.  What's new in your world?

Put up a video on seriously random things.  Hobonichi follow up, fountain pens, post cards... It had been awhile so I figured a video was due.  I think it really captures just how scatter brained I've been lately!

Friday Five!

Friday, yay!!  Been a weird and crazy week too.  But here we are, almost done!  I'm ready for a day on the couch under a big blanket with my kitty for sure.

Found a decent list on my usual source from last week actually.  (When I forgot to post)  so let's just dive in, shall we?

Pressing Friday Five

1. In what way are you pressing your luck?
Well I keep forgetting my blog posts.  And had an extended absence.  I may be alienating my readers.  :(  Sorry.

2. When did you last wield an iron?
Good lord, I'm not entirely sure I own an iron anymore.  I think it might be in the basement but I honestly don't know.  So it's been years.  If it needs ironed I don't buy it.

3. Not counting your computer, tablet or phone; what was the result of the last time you pressed a button?
The elevator took me too my floor at work.

4.  What was the name of your high school newspaper?
Oh jeez.  What did I have for breakfast this morning?  I cannot remember.  I know we had one. I do remember we had a literary magazine where students could submit short stories and poetry called "The Wordsmith".  But the actual newspaper....  It's been 20 years, cut me some slack.

5. To "Press the flesh" means to meet and greet as many people as you can, shaking hands and making personal contact.  When were you last called upon to press the flesh?  How were you?
I used to go to some networking events for our theatre several years ago.  I was ok I guess.  Socially awkward, but that's par for the course with me.

That's about it for my list.  I hope everyone else is well and keeping warm!  It's bitterly cold around here this week. Single digit temperatures and negative wind chills! Brrrrr.  And all the drastic changes in temperatures and pressure is having a field day with my sinuses.  Bleh.

Much love!!

Weird Wednesday WIPs!

Why is is weird you ask?  Weird day.  I took the day off from work to redeem a certificate I got as a gift for Christmas for house cleaning services.  I'm kinda picky about things in my home and awkward around strangers.  Now there is a crew of strangers cleaning my house.  But.... someone else is cleaning my house for me!!!  And probably doing a way better job than I ever would.  I mean, I'm not a bad housekeeper, but I'm far from professional.  And lord knows after an hour or two I'm tired and done with the whole cleaning thing so I rarely get the whole house done.

Anyway, WIPs!  I have 3, count 'em; 3 WIPs!!

There's the blanket, but I haven't touched it in the last week.  (I know, surprise surprise)

But there is that cowl I mentioned last week that I wasn't sure about.  Here it is:

Kinda clown barfy right?  Eh.  We'll see how it goes.  I have two balls of that yarn.  But it's kind of on hiatus while I work on this next one:

I'm making a cowl for myself from yarn I got in a gift swap on Ravelry.  It's my favorite color and has flower shaped sequins.  SEQUINS!!!

I'm doing a Tunisian stitch that I don't know the name of.  Heh.  But it's pretty!

So that's about it for me right now.  Happy to finally have some hookey time again.  While playing hooky form work, hah!  Hope everyone is well, much love!!

Wednesday WIPs

So, I maybe added one or two rows onto the blanket so I did not take a picture.  Although in hindsight I should have.  Oh well.  Next week.

I got the yarn in my WIP bag with a hook for another project but I'm still debating making it at all.  I'm not sold on the yarn.  It was given to me in a swap, and it's cute, but it's meant for socks and doesn't work up well for other things, like the cowl I'm intending.  I haven't really had a chance to get much hooky time in recently anyway.  So we'll see.  I get a few rows on and see what it looks like.

What else is going on?  My improv troupe has our annual Valentine's show opening this weekend, Date Night.  Super fun and audiences seem to love it.  We bring a couple up and interview them a bit about their relationship; where they met, what they do for fun, where their first date was, etc etc.    Then we reenact their entire relationship as best we can.  Naturally we make it a bit weird and the couple loves it!!

And just so you're not without a photo this week, we took some really fun promo photos in our pajamas.  Here's mine.  :D

That's about it for me I guess.  I hope everyone else is well.  Much love!!

Friday Five!

It's Friday one again and a very nice one at that.  The sun is shining, and the universe seems to be calming after what appeared to be a week long hissy fit.  (Was it just me? )

I got a rare treat today as well.  So as you probably know, I work in a high rise downtown and once a day or so I try to walk up the stairs to the top.  a) To get away from my desk for a minute and b) to get a few extra minutes of exercise a day.  So today I get to the top and run into a couple of maintenance guys.  They all know me and like me pretty well so they offered to let me out onto the roof for a minute.  MAN was that awesome!  Windy and cold but so, SO worth it!!!

So on to the list.  My usual source had some decent questions so I'll go with those.  So let's get on with it already!

Sensical Friday Five

1) How would you describe your sense of direction?
Off and on.  I have lived in Columbus my entire life and I still get lost sometimes.  It's kinda pathetic really.  But if I'm walking or driving somewhere I've never been I can almost always find my way back without assistance.  I can usually keep tabs on which way is North, East, etc.

2) Who's sense of humor is most like yours?
Oh jeez.  I'd like to think mine is very unique.  But if I had to pick a comedian, I'd have to go with Sarah Silverman.  Offensive with no apology and a slight sense of innocence about it.

3) What film's or novel's sense of place really impressed you?
Um, what?

4) When did you most recently and accurately sense danger?
Last night.  I just KNEW that unseen dragon spirit was out to get me and when it tried to shut me in the closet while I was getting a Ziploc bag off the top shelf fr all my extra paper clips....  wait, that was a dream.  God my dreams are weird.

5) How would you describe the scent of your car's interior?
Umm.... like a 14 year old car.  I don't think that it smells like anything.  Well when I run the dashboard fans it kind of smells like mold.  I'm sure that's safe.  Right?

Well, I hope you all have a great weekend planned.  Do something fun!!  I am sadly quite busy this weekend, but fully intend to enjoy tonight.    Much love.
